"something real, never heard of them, well shame on me because this bunch certainly had got through the net, in truth i had spoken to gary "gash on here"for the 1st time a week before at a small wonder gig and i think he was in general just asking about the tavern as they were due to play there the following sunday, no butter up here nor did he mention much about his band, great because that meant i would be going to see this band with an open mind.
Hmm!! one thing i had mentioned to him though was the size of the crowd that gets in the tavern, so what happens today i find myself apologizing for the poor turn out, well initially anyway, the weather was far from ideal due to the ice more than the snow and this being the last gig before x-mas i was thinking people were keeping there money for the festive activities that would be happening later in the week, well slowly but surely people started to come through the door and while gary was pleased with a half filled pub to play to i was'nt because i know crowd wise what this venue is capable of.
as usual the band a 5 piece started right on 4 o'clock, jonny lang, steve miller, cream, police, tom petty and the cult were all played in the 1st half, i've got to mention the x-factor panel that had set themselves up right at the front, great banter between gary and this lot and a big plus to the frontman the way he conected with them, both parties having a good laugh about it, mind the bands marks were getting higher with every song.
2nd half and its my turn to be pleased because by now the pubs pretty full and they're intime to hear, areosmith, clapton, kings of leon"not just sex on fire for a change" free and thin lizzy amongst others, to many songs to remember really, so vast is this bands list of covers that they play. i had to laugh when gary climbed on to the x-factor table to sing the last 2 encore numbers, making sure to win the judges over.
so what you've got with something real is an allround great rock covers band thats sure to liven up any venue and 5 guys that will play something that most audiences will appriciate, i say most because there's "nee priest"here nor has there been with any band thats played this venue, metal is not what this pub is about. what something real brought here was a winning formula of covers that works really well, you only had to hear the crowd at the end of their gig to know that.

Brandling Villa, South Gosforth - Saturday 16th January 2010
"Just to let you all aware of a cracking gig last night
watching 'Something Real'. These lads were much, much better than the
first time I saw them a few months back. Much more confident, and a
little more explosive.
Hard venue to play in though, as your facing
the bar!! Barmaid came over and asked for the sound to be turned down (
during soundcheck!)..... of course pet....... and it went up a notch!!!!
No further complaints about the volume, strange that, innit!!
Took
the missus over, and a couple of mates. They thoroughly enjoyed the set
which ranges from Kings Of Leon to Bryan Adams, Free to The Jam. A good
selection of era's of music, and good on the ear.
Sound was crystal clear ( well done Knobby) and the lads looked as though they enjoyed it as much as the crowd.
Must go and see them again.
Garreth"

The Sand Dancer, South Shields - Friday 5th February 2010
"Only caught the 2nd half but canny stuff from the lads,
some good songs mixed in with the well known crowd pleasers that had
the audience up and dancing - and longjaw you were right there was a
few canny wags up and dancing

Good
sound and a very happy crowd at the end of the night with a few thrown
in to keep even difficult punters like me tappin me foot and singing
along, bit of drunken banter with gash at the end of the night
and a good ol chinwag with me m8 guitar george - nice one lads hope to catch you again soon."
